Our wish is to create an accessible environment of learning and growth. We are very excited to offer the residents of the Borough of Alpha a Free Public Library to check out books, books on tape, music and DVD's. The library offers up to date new releases in Adult, Young Adult and Children's Fiction and Non-Fiction Books. We welcome requests for new titles and other interests to meet the public's enjoyment. W.H. Walters Free Public Library also offers reference materials, periodicals, wi fi access and computers to access the internet. The library is free to all residents of the Borough of Alpha and to non-residents for a nominal yearly fee of $5.00 per individual or $12.50 per family. The Library Board of Trustees has recently approved 'courtesy memberships' for the employees of the Borough of Alpha and Alpha Public School. Events are welcome to be held at the W.H. Walters Free Public Library. Please fill out a Public Use Permit Application and submit the request to the Library Staff, Myrna Minardi or Carla Roselle, for board approval. Loan Policies and Fees
The W. H. Walters Free Public Library Board of Trustees is committed to making our library an accessible and community driven asset. We are excited about new programs offered by residents like Betty Hammerstone and the Girl Scouts like Junior Troop 4332 who give back by helping with acquisitions and beautification. Anyone interested in starting a club may submit a request to the library or by submitting a Public Use Permit Application. This is your community and your library and it is our commitment as the W. H. Walters Free Public Library Board of Trustees to help facilitate this library for your interests and enjoyment. Library Board of Trustees Meetings for 2012: The public is always welcome! January 14, 2013 (reorganization meeting immediately followed by regular meeting) W. H. Walters Free Public Library History In April 1937, the Alpha National Bank Building was purchased by William Henry Walters and presented as a gift to the Borough of Alpha to be used as a Free Public Library. The Board of Trustees voted to name this library the Williams H. Walters free Public Library in honor of Mr. Walters. On May 8, 1937, the Board of Trustees applied for a charter and it was granted on May 12, 1937. The library officially opened on August 1, 1937 with Edna Sitgreaves serving as its first Librarian. |
